Mark Driscoll @ Crystal Cathedral
This is a modified posting that originally was posted on my blog “True Faith Defender”. It has been removed from “True Faith Defender” blog and posted here. This posting was in response to Blogging Popes who have attacked Mark Driscoll for either giving a sermon at the Crystal Cathedral at all or not giving the sermon that they believe he should have given.
I was present at Crystal Cathedral and I heard both of Mark Driscoll’s sermons. He gave two different sermons. One for the first service and another for the second service. This is no secret as this fact was made known by both Mark Driscoll and the Crystal Cathedral. As an eye witness to the event whereas the Blogging Popes have only watched the first sermon given because that was the only sermon that “The Hour of Power” broadcasted of the two sermons to date.
Mark Driscoll’s deal was that he was not paid any money even travel expenses for giving two different sermons, both sermons were to be broadcasted on “The Hour of Power” unedited, and he would keep the two sermons within the time alloted so that the sermons would not have to be edited (shortened to fit the time slot). Per his Tweeter feed before going to Southern California to give the sermons he was busy practicing the sermons to make sure he could keep the sermons within the alloted time so that the sermons would not be edited.
When I heard both sermons in my mind was the idea that the first sermon probably would be broadcasted but I wondered if the second sermon would get censored by not being broadcasted. For reasons yet to be explained “The Hour of Power” was slow at broadcasting the first sermon that Mark Driscoll gave at the Crystal Cathedral and all is very silent as to when if ever the second sermon will be broadcasted on “The Hour of Power”.
Why did I think the second sermon may not be broadcasted? It was not because the sermon had any heresy in it. It was because the sermon was too negative for the very positive message typical of “The Hour of Power”. The sermon had to do with the pain that Jesus suffered to pay for the sins of those that he redeemed. The sermon went too much into the negativity of sin and the price that had to be paid by Jesus to make the redeemed right with God. Sin is a very negative topic if preached the way that Mark Driscoll did that morning at the Crystal Cathedral.
To the great Blogging Popes who condemned Mark Driscoll’s first sermon at the Crystal Cathedral which really wasn’t that bad of a sermon as it was part 1 of a 2 part sermon set since it lead up to the second sermon. What will they say if the second sermon get broadcasted because it has yet to be broadcasted many months after it was preached. To me the second sermon was greater than the first sermon and I count my blessings that I was there to hear it since it has yet to be broadcasted.
Although I do question the wisdom of Mark Driscoll calling Robert Schiller a brother I have no desire to condemn him over it. Perhaps I should condemn Martin Luther over not calling a person a Christian brother that he should have?
Although I do question the wisdom of going to the Crystal Cathedral to give two different sermons that were very Christ centered particularly the second one which has yet to be broadcasted on “The Hour of Power”. The reason I questioned the wisdom of it is that I knew his decision to give a sermon there would create a lot of controversy. I knew that the Blogging Popes would attack him on it and condemn him for not saying something that they believed he should have said. After hearing both sermons there in person I am glad that he did it as I was blessed to hear both sermons particularly the second one. The reason I went to see Mark Driscoll is that I have become very impressed with him, I wanted to see him in person, and I knew he was doing something controversal that the Blogging Popes would condemn him on so I wanted to witness this controversal event in person to be a key witness on what really happened that morning at the Crystal Cathedral.
To the Self-Righteous Anti-Mark Driscoll Blogging Popes I have the following questions. Who made you a god over Mark Driscoll!?!?! Who made you judge over Mark Driscoll!?!?! Who made Mark Driscoll accountable to you as to what he preaches and where he preaches? By what authority in the Bible do you judge Mark Driscoll?!?!
